Born in Tianjin, Shenyang is Winner of 2007 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition, 2008 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, and 2010 Montblanc New Voices at Stars of the White Nights Festival.

In 2012-13 season, Shenyang performs in Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts and returns to the Beijing Music Festival. Shenyang gives the world premiere of the orchestral song cycle, Song of Farewell, written for him by composer Xiaogang Ye, in Beijing and at the Berliner Philharmonie with the China National Symphony Orchestra. He also performs with Jiří Bělohlávek and Toronto Symphony Orchestra, as well as with Michael Tilson Thomas leading the San Francisco Symphony and Chorus.

Other recent highlights include appearing as Artist in Residence of Shanghai Symphony in numerous programmes conducted by Long Yu. At the opening weekend of Beijing Music Festival, he joined Daniel Harding and the China Philharmonic for selections from Mahler’s Des knaben Wunderhorn, and was presented in solo recital at the Festival in a programme of Schubert, Loewe, and Mahler. Shenyang appeared with International Bachakademie Stuttgart on a European tour and returned to the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in a new production of Don Giovanni. In 2012, Shenyang débuted at Glyndebourne Festival and Bayerische Staatsoper.

Other conductors and ensembles he has collaborated with include Levine, Barenboim, Gergiev and de Waart, as well as New York Philharmonic, Boston and San Francisco Symphonies. He has also sung in Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, among other prestigious venues.
