As Edo de Waart continues his Mahler cycle with Das Lied von
der Erde, he also returns to an earlier favorite – the vast and
philosophical Third Symphony. Scored for a massive orchestra
with the addition of women’s voices, children’s chorus and a
solo mezzo-soprano, the Symphony spans 100 minutes and
embraces a life of experience, filled with struggle, triumph,
joy, anguish and ultimately glowing with one of music’s most
heartfelt outpourings of sheer love. |
