Congratulations to Gil Shaham for receiving Musical America Instrumentalist of the Year 2012 award
Savour the finest musical jewels from the USA when star violinist Gil Shaham presents the greatest of all American violin concertos. Written at the outbreak of the Second World War, Samuel Barber’s marvellous concerto provides the perfect showcase for Shaham’s phenomenal talents. Partnered by fellow-American, Andrew Litton, this promises to be a truly awesome occasion. Maestro Litton has been described as “a musician of real depth, character and calibre”, qualities he will be bringing to bear in a rare performance of another great work born among the horrors of the Second World War. Prokofiev’s searing Sixth Symphony may have been condemned by Stalin, but we can be sure of a performance from the HKPO which will inspire even the most iron-clad hearts.
