Recorders and HKPO broke World records


6,243 primary and secondary students established a new Guinness World Record on 27 December 2004 for the largest number of people playing the recorder simultaneously in one location at the Hang Seng 'M.I. Kid' World-Record 'Orkidstra' event.

Maestro Edo de Waart, led the students together with Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in a six-minute Christmas carols and the Hang Seng 'M I Kid' theme song medley at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Showing their support for this world-record event were more than 200 Hang Seng "M.I. Kid" customers in mainland China, who played the recorder simultaneously in Shenzhen with their Hong Kong counterparts.

Ms Anissa Wong Sean-yee, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, and Ms Barbara Fei, Chairwoman, Music Group, Hong Kong Arts Development Council, attended the record-breaking event as independent witnesses.

This event was organised by Hang Seng Bank with musical direction by Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Through this event, it is hoped that teenagers are encourage to broaden their musical knowledge and develop their musical intelligence.

The event raised HK$300,000 for The Student Ticket Fund of HKPO, with each participant donating a minimum of HK$20 and an additional amount donated by Hang Seng Bank.
