Swire Classic Insights: Adult Education Concert is a series of FREE concerts designed for adults and young people, aged 15 years and over, who are interested in learning more about symphonic music. Each programme in the series will let you get inside the music to gain a deeper understanding of the composer’s creative process. With a 30-minute introduction, illustrated with musical examples played by the Hong Kong Philharmonic, a major symphonic work is deconstructed to offer fascinating insights into the art of composition and the skill of orchestration. This introduction is followed by a complete performance of the symphony. At previous concerts, we have presented Beethoven’s Symphony No.2 and Mozart’s Symphony No. 41, with speakers Timothy Calnin, HKPO’s Chief Executive (in English), Leung Kin-fung, HKPO’s First Associate Concertmaster (in Cantonese) and Henry Shek (conductor and speaker in Cantonese). On 14 June, Prof. Lo King-man will introduce, in Cantonese, Richard Strauss’s best loved opera, Der Rosenkavalier, followed by the performance of the full orchestral suite by the Hong Kong Philharmonic, conducted by Edo de Waart. Not to be missed!
