To announce the collaboration, a press conference was held in the afternoon of 25 January at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall, where many of HKPO’s classical music concerts are normally held. Besides Sally Yeh, officiating guests and artist included Mr. Paul Leung, SBS, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Philharmonic Society, Mr. Henry Shek, Conductor of the concert and Music Advisor Mr. Chiu Tsang Hei. Programme host and new music composer Samson Young was the Emcee of the press conference. Close to 20 of HKPO’s musicians, including its First Associate Concertmaster, violinist Leung Kin-fung, also performed Pachelbel’s famous Canon under the baton of Henry Shek.
Sally Yeh said at the press conference, “I am extremely excited and very much looking forward to the impending chemistry that will arise between the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Mr. Henry Shek and myself. I will hope this is a show that everyone will enjoy & remember for a long time to come.”
Mr. Paul Leung, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Philharmonic Society, commented, “We are very delighted to collaborate with Ms. Yeh, a pop singer of wide popularity and renown. HKPO X LIVE has successfully reached a wide range of audience in the previous years, and we hope this to continue providing this unique music experience to Hong Kong’s audience. I believe Ms. Yeh and HKPO will have a wonderful time together under the baton of Mr. Shek.”
This is the first time Sally Yeh and HKPO appear on stage together, as well as the first collaboration between her and Henry Shek. Shek is a renowned classical music conductor, and served as the Music Director of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra from 1993 to 1997. He is an avid promoter of music and a conductor of great diversity, having performed a wide range of music from pop music to jazz, opera to Broadway music. The two artists discussed their plans and expectation for the upcoming concerts, and said there would be a series of wonderful surprises for the audience.
Coming back to work with Sally Yeh is Chiu Tsang Hei, producer, composer, arranger, and music director in Hong Kong’s entertainment industry. Chiu explained the concert theme of Music in Motion, and said he would introduce a dynamic element to Sally’s unique voice and style. He also talked about the choice of music arrangers.
