2005-04-27

Hong Kong, 27 April 2005 – The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO) announces today that owing to illness, Dennis Kim will not be appearing as soloist in the concerts, Mozart in the City: Paris and Linz. Leung Kin-Fung, HKPO’s First Associate Concertmaster will replace him as the violin solo in Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for violin, viola and orchestra, K. 364. Principal Viola Huang Hung-wei will be the other soloist, as originally scheduled. The concerts will be held on 29 and 30 April (Friday and Saturday), 8pm, at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall.

In the same programme, HKPO Principal Conductor Samuel Wong will lead the Orchestra in two symphonies by Mozart, No. 31 Paris and No. 36 Linz.

Leung Kin-fung is Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra’s First Associate Concertmaster since 2000. A recipient of the “Ten Outstanding Young Persons” in Hong Kong in 2002, he leads a busy career as a performer. Beginning with the 2000 season, he was invited to represent Hong Kong in the Super World Orchestra, comprised of concertmasters and principals from the world's leading orchestras, held annually in Tokyo. He performs on the “Markees” violin made in 1701 by Antonio Stradivarius.

Huang Hung-wei joined HKPO Principal Violist at the age of 23 in 2002, and is a graduate of three of the world’s most prestigious music academies: Curtis, Juilliard and Mannes College of Music. He has appeared on the stages of Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center, and has collaborated with such eminent artists as Uchida and Graffman.
