Hong Kong, 25 November 2005 – On 9 November 2005, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO) organised a “Fundraising Dinner with Yo-Yo Ma” at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre to raise funds for the Orchestra. The event attracted overwhelming support from over 50 local celebrities.
Mrs Janice Choi, Chairperson of the “Fundraising Dinner with Yo-Yo Ma”, said: “We are glad to have Mr Yo-Yo Ma to help raise funds for our Orchestra, and the response has been most enthusiastic. Net proceeds of the event will all go to the excellent Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra for its Artistic Development Fund.”
Guests who attended the event included The Hon Patrick Ho (Secretary for Home Affairs), Maestro Edo de Waart (Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the HKPO), Ms Anissa Wong (Director of Leisure and Cultural Services Department), Sir Gordon and Lady Wu (Hopewell Holdings Limited), Dr William Mong (Chairman of Shun Hing Electronic Holdings Limited), Mr Wilfred Wong (Vice Chairman of Shui On Holdings Limited), Mrs Alice Chiu (Sheen Hok Charitable Foundation), Dr Eden Woon (Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce) and Prof Poon Chung Kwong (President of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University).
The Hon Patrick Ho and Ms Anissa Wong presented souvenirs to individual donors to thank them for supporting the HKPO. Mr Edward S T Ho, Chairman of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Society’s General Committee, and Ms Brenda Chow, the Committee’s Honorary Public Relations Consultant, in turn presented souvenirs to The Hon Patrick Ho and Ms Anissa Wong as a token of appreciation for their kind support of this meaningful event.
