Hong Kong, 30 November 2005 – The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO) will present three nights of Christmas music to celebrate the festive season on 22, 23 and 24 December at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall. Harmen Cnossen will conduct the Orchestra and Chorus in an exquisite selection of Baroque favourites and Christmas carols. Dutch soprano Miranda van Kralingen will be the spotlight in such perennial classics as O mio babbino caro and excerpts from La Traviata and Otello, while HKPO Principal Trumpet Jonathan Clarke will star in Telemann’s Trumpet Concerto.
One of Holland’s most exciting performers, Miranda van Kralingen has sung leading soprano roles at The Netherlands Opera and has appeared in such prestigious opera houses as Die Komische Oper Berlin, the Basel Opera and the Welsh National Opera. She was awarded the “Victorine Hefting Prize” and the “Jose Carreras diamond tulip award” for her international achievements.
Jonathan Clarke, HKPO’s Principal Trumpet, recently gave an impressive performance at the 04/05 Season Finale concerts of Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. Before joining the HKPO, he was Principal Trumpet of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Netherlands Opera, with such maestros as Gennadi Rhozdestvensky and the late Hans Vonk.
HKPO Resident Conductor Harmen Cnossen joined the HKPO earlier this year and has already conducted a number of very exciting performances, such as pop concerts with singer Laura Fygi, sold-out family concerts and a series of very successful lunchtime concerts at the AIG Tower. Previously, he was the assistant conductor of the Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra and the China National Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.
