Hong Kong, 27 February 2009 – The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra is pleased to announce the second year of support from the Octavian Society Limited and Y.S. Liu Foundation for the Maestro’s Chair Endowment. In 2007/08 season, the Octavian Society Limited and Y.S. Liu Foundation committed a three-year Maestro’s Chair Endowment scheme of HK$2 million per annum. This season, they have continuously contributed HK$1 million respectively as a testament of their sharing of the Artistic Director’s Vision.
Maestro Edo de Waart joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra as the Artistic Director and Conductor in 2004 and a remarkable development has been witness to the artistic standards since his joining. Both donors felt that it was most rewarding to see how the Orchestra has shaped to be, perhaps, the best Orchestra in the region under the baton of Maestro de Waart.
“I hope the classical music enthusiasts in Hong Kong and the mainland will join me in supporting the HKPO so they can continue to strive for new heights” said Mr. Y. S. Liu.
“Maestro Edo de Waart is one of the premier conductors on the international scene. Under his leadership, the Hong Kong Philharmonic can aspire to be a world-class orchestra” said the representative of The Octavian Society Limited.
The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra is financially supported by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
SWIRE is the Principal Patron of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
