[29 March 2010 –Hong Kong] Organised by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO), sponsored by the HSBC Insurance and Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged of The Social Welfare Department, and co-sponsored by The Hongkong Bank Foundation, The Tung Foundation and Towngas, “HSBC Insurance Creative Notes” Tin Shui Wai Community Concert was held successfully at the SPHRC Kung Yik She Secondary School in Tin Shui Wai today (27 March). 64 HKPO musicians brought enchanting melodies while 20 students danced to the vivid Firebird Suite, bringing an extraordinary musical experience to nearly 1000 audiences.
The two concerts commenced with the famous Symphony No. 5 of Beethoven (first movement) conducted by the Assistant Conductor of the HKPO, Perry So. A dancing session on Russian composer Stravinsky’s ballet suite, Firebird, brought the highlight of the concert. Around 20 students from QES Old Students Association Branch Primary School with no dancing experience débuted with the HKPO on this challenging piece after only a few weeks of intensive but fun-filled rehearsals instructed by Ms Chow Ho-wan, the choreographer. The students not only had an exciting afternoon, but also a personal musical experience which will be remembered for the rest of their lives.
This year, “HSBC Insurance Creative Notes” will bring music to over 50,000 students from over 300 local schools through 16 Student Concerts, 46 School Visits by HKPO ensembles and 10 Instrumental Master-classes. An educational toolkit “Music Smart”, funded by HSBC Insurance, written by Perry So, are distributed to participating schools free of charge.
