[2 September 2010 – Hong Kong] Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO) opened its 2010/11 season tonight, with Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Maestro Edo de Waart performing on stage with four magnificent opera stars namely soprano Liping Zhang, mezzo-soprano Ning Liang, tenor Warren Mok and bass-baritone Shen Yang to bring the most popular arias selected from the beloved operas.
The Honorable Wong Yan Lung, SC, JP The Secretary of Justice; Mr. Y.S. Liu, Chairman of the Board of Govenors of the HKPO, Mr. Peter Kilgour, Finance Director of Swire Pacific Limited and Mr. Lorenzo Della Croce from Pal Zileri, the sponsor of HKPO Season Opening Gala Concert 2010/11 appeared as the officiating guests of the Opening Ceremony.
Other guests included: Mrs. Janice Choi, Ms. Joanne Chan, Ms. Teresa Au, Head of Corporate Sustainability, Asia Pacific Region, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd., and many other honourable guests.“HKPO Season Opening Gala Concert” features four of today’s most brilliant and respected Chinese opera stars including soprano Liping Zhang whose magical performance of Rusalka in Song to the Moon has been described “as if fashioned by the Gods”, mezzo-soprano Ning Liang, the first Chinese singer ever to perform at Milan’s La Scala opera house, Hong Kong’s very own international tenor Warren Mok and bass-baritone Shen Yang, who won the prestigious BBC Cardiff Singer of the World in 2007.

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO) is one of Asia’s leading orchestras. In the 2010/11 season, the Orchestra undertakes a China tour of Shanghai, Xi’an and Beijing under the leadership of Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Maestro Edo de Waart. The first of which is an Expo 2010 programme.
