[6 April 2011 – Hong Kong] Following the success of its first ever community concert in Tin Shui Wai last year, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO), under its “HSBC Insurance Creative Notes” music education programme, once again reached out to the residents of another outlying community, Tung Chung, on 26 March 2011 (Saturday) with a programme that combines Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition

The concerts commenced with a sharing session brought by Ms. To Yee-ming, the pre-concert workshop speaker and the music panel of Po Leung Kuk Yao Ling Sun College. Under the baton of conductor Philip Chu, the HKPO performed the most popular work by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, Pictures at an Exhibition while 20 students from Ching Chung Hau Po Woon Primary School displayed their creative and beautiful drawings inspired by the music to the audience.

The flagship performing arts company in Hong Kong and a leading orchestra in Asia, the HKPO believes in the importance of making music part of our daily lives and has been advancing music education in Hong Kong for decades, a mission shared by the HSBC Insurance, the program’s sponsor since the program’s inception.  “HSBC Insurance believes that music can enrich everyone’s life and improve their physical and mental well-being. We are proud to help nurture Hong Kong’s future leaders by sowing the musical seeds and equipping these youngsters to reap lifelong rewards,” said David Fried, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, HSBC Insurance (Aisa-Pacific) Holdings Limited.

“HSBC Insurance Creative Notes”
The largest free music education program in Hong Kong, “HSBC Insurance Creative Notes” is organized by the HKPO, sponsored by the HSBC Insurance and Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged of The Social Welfare Department, and co-sponsored by the Hongkong Bank Foundation and the Tung Foundation. The Hong Kong Institute of Education joined the program as its Education partner for the first time this season.

In the 2010/11 season, “HSBC Insurance Creative Notes” will bring the joy of music to over 50,000 students from 381 local schools through 15 Student Concerts, 50 School Visits by HKPO ensembles and 10 Instrumental Master-classes.
