Join Conductor Lio Kuokman and Presenter Harry Wong on an Exciting Adventure with "Peter and the Wolf" !

[14 December 2011 – Hong Kong] Which instrument sounds most like a wolf and which sounds like a little boy? Find out the answers when the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO) performs Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf in our highly acclaimed Family Concert "Harry and the Wolf". Come and join conductor LIO Kuokman and presenter Harry WONG for an evening of music for all the family featuring a selection of popular favourites from the orchestral repertoire.

Sponsored by Great Eagle Holdings Limited, Family Concert: "Harry and the Wolf" will be held on 13 Jan 2012 (Fri), 8pm in the Tuen Mun Town Hall Auditorium and on 14 Jan 2012 (Sat), 4pm & 7:30pm in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall. The concerts are suitable for ages 1 and above. Tickets going fast!

Harry Wong, presenter
Harry Wong (a.k.a. Harry Goh Goh) is well known to both children and adults for his funny antics and amazing magic tricks. Both music and magic have been part of his life since young, and with these gifts. Harry has brought joy to the public through all kinds of media. He is one of the leading specialists in the local music education field. His series of music textbooks, Music Today, and his recorder methods have been widely adopted by primary schools throughout Hong Kong.

Harry's original compositions and Chinese interpretations of Rick Scott's songs are available on the CD album The 5 Elements. This album won the 2004 North American Parenting Publications Gold Award and the 2004 Parents' Choice Award in USA. Harry's passion to bring joy to the world has guided him into becoming the CEO of QQ Club, a mega children's club that operates in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and United Kingdom encouraging a happy childhood through experiencing and learning through world-wide cultures

Lio Kuokman, conductor
Praised by the Philadelphia Inquirer as "a startling conducting talent", Lio Kuokman, is sought after as a conductor, piano soloist and chamber musician. Recent engagements include a performance with the Philadelphia Orchestra as both conductor and harpsichord soloist, and the Hong Kong première of Donizetti's La fille du regiment with Musica Viva in January 2010.

Lio graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music with a double major in orchestral conducting and harpsichord studies. Before entering Curtis, he received a master's degree in piano performance from the Juilliard School and a Bachelor Degree with first class honours from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

He has served as cover conductor for the Philadelphia Orchestra, assisting Charles Dutoit, Christoph

von Dohnányi, Jaap van Zweden and Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos. He has prepared the Curtis Symphony Orchestra for many guest conductors, and has studied in masterclasses with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Michael Tilson Thomas, James Levine, Christoph Eschenbach and Alan Gilbert.

He was named assistant conductor of the Curtis Opera Theatre for many opera productions, and in 2008 was invited by Pinchas Zukerman to the Ottawa Young Conductors Programme where he conducted the gala performance with the Canada National Arts Center Orchestra.

In the wonderful children's classic Peter and the Wolf, Peter ignores his grandfather's warnings and ventures out into the forest in the hope of finding the fearful wolf about which he has heard so much. He meets a bird, a duck and a cat, who are his friends, and eventually spots the wolf. But the wolf spots him, too! Danger lurks…How will Peter get out of trouble without getting himself eaten by the wolf?

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO) is one of Asia's leading orchestras. Enriching Hong Kong's cultural life for over a century, the Orchestra has grown into a formidable ensemble of Chinese and international talents, attracting world-class artists to collaborate on its stage. HKPO annually touches the lives of over 200,000 music lovers through more than 150 performances including its extensive education programme HSBC Insurance Creative Notes and free concerts such as the popular Swire Symphony under the Stars, and regular broadcasts and telecasts. Outside of Hong Kong, the HKPO has made a number of critically acclaimed tours in Asia and Europe.

The 2011/12 season will mark Maestro Edo de Waart's eighth and final season with the HKPO. Apart from his own series of five special programmes which are summaries of his achievements with the Orchestra over the last seven years, ending with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, the new season will also attract a stellar cast of great artists and guest conductors.
