Soloist Change for HKPO Concerts on 8th & 9th July
Hong Kong, 20th May 2005 - Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO) announces today a change of soloist in its upcoming concerts Edo de Waart Conducts Mahler 5 on 8th & 9th July. George Pieterson, the clarinet soloist originally scheduled to play in the concerts, has unfortunately withdrawn from these concerts due to illness. Flautist Jacque Zoon has agreed to step in to lead the HKPO in both performances. Mozart's Flute Concerto in G Major will replace Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in the original programme. The rest of the programme remains unchanged.
Dutch flautist Jacques Zoon enjoys a flourishing international career as a soloist, conductor and teacher. He was awarded the "Prix spécial du jury" at the Rampal competition (1987) and Scheveningen International Music Competition (1988). In 1997, he took the challenge of exchanging his top position as the Principal Flute with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra for the same position with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and at the same time frequently toured with Abbado, Haitink and Harnoncourt. His recording of contemporary repertoire for flute with pianist Bernd Brackman was awarded the prestigious Edison Prize. In 1998, he was named “Musician of the Year” by Boston Globe.
For any further ticketing inquiry, HKPO may be reached on 2721-2332. Details are also available on website www.hkpo.com.
