Edo de Waart Receives an Order of Australia at
 
Hong Kong, 5 December 2005 – An investiture ceremony as an Officer in the Order of Australia of Edo de Waart “for service to Australia, particularly as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra” was held at the Australian Consul-General’s Residence today. Edo de Waart, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO), received the award from Australian Consul-General, Mr Murray Cobban.

Guests present at the ceremony included Mr Edward Ho, Chairman and So Hau-leung, Ms Brenda Chow and Mrs Janice Choi, members of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Society; Mrs Harriet Tung, Co-Chairwoman of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Society Ladies Committee; Ms Megan Sterling and Ms Linda Stuckey, Australian musicians from the Orchestra.

The Australian Government has recognized Maestro de Waart’s success in making the Sydney Symphony an orchestra of international renown, to a point where the Orchestra could attract the finest artists appearing on the international concert circuit. In addition, they acknowledge the strong commitment Maestro de Waart has shown to Australian artists in recording and commissioning projects.
